Practice: paired conjunctions

The four paired conjunctions compared – each links two elements, but with a different meaning:

Note:

• "weder … noch" is negative (no extra "nicht").
• "je … desto" needs two comparatives + special word order.
• The other three barely change the word order.

Examples:

• Entweder wir nehmen den Bus oder wir gehen zu Fuß. (Either we take the bus or we walk.)
• Sie ist sowohl klug als auch fleißig. (She is both clever and hard-working.)
• Je mehr man übt, desto sicherer wird man. (The more you practise, the more confident you get.)
