Important

All three variants are correct! An Austrian who says Jänner is not making a mistake. For learners: be able to understand them, and use one variant consistently.

Examples:

  • Ich hätte gern ein Sackerl. (Austria) = eine Tüte (Germany) (I'd like a bag.)
  • Fährst du mit dem Velo zur Arbeit? (Switzerland) = mit dem Fahrrad (Do you cycle to work?)
  • Am Sonnabend gehen wir auf den Markt. (northern Germany) (On Saturday we go to the market.)
  • Ich bin lange vor dem Haus gestanden. (southern Germany/Austria) = ich habe gestanden (I stood in front of the house for a long time.)
  • Heuer fahren wir nach Italien. (Austria/Bavaria) = dieses Jahr (This year we're going to Italy.)

Welches Wort ist die norddeutsche Variante für "Samstag"?
