Connectors for text structure
Structuring connectors work like signposts: they show readers where they are in the text – beginning, middle or end – and how the parts fit together.
Introduction

Main part: sequence and addition

Word order
All these expressions stand in position 1 → the verb follows directly:

Sample text
In diesem Referat geht es um das Thema Tourismus. Zunächst stelle ich die Entwicklung der letzten Jahre dar. Anschließend gehe ich auf die Vorteile ein: Erstens schafft Tourismus Arbeitsplätze, zweitens fördert er den kulturellen Austausch. Im Gegensatz dazu stehen die Belastungen für die Umwelt. Abschließend möchte ich einige Lösungsvorschläge machen. (This presentation is about tourism. First I outline developments in recent years. Then I discuss the advantages: firstly, tourism creates jobs; secondly, it promotes cultural exchange. In contrast, there is the burden on the environment. Finally I'd like to suggest some solutions.)
