"nichtsdestotrotz" and "insofern als"
nichtsdestotrotz – "nevertheless", but more emphatic
"nichtsdestotrotz" is an elevated, rather emphatic synonym for trotzdem / dennoch. It arose jokingly from nichtsdestoweniger + trotz and is now common in speeches, commentaries and formal texts.
Die Lage ist schwierig. Nichtsdestotrotz werden wir unsere Ziele erreichen. (The situation is difficult. Nevertheless we will achieve our goals.)

insofern als – "insofar as" / "to the extent that"
"insofern als" introduces a subordinate clause (verb at the end). It gives a reason but at the same time limits its validity: the statement holds only in this respect.
Die Reform ist insofern problematisch, als sie die Geringverdiener benachteiligt. (The reform is problematic insofar as it disadvantages low earners.)
Position: insofern often stands in the main clause, als introduces the subordinate clause. Both parts can also stand together:
- Er hat insofern recht, als die Zahlen gestiegen sind. (He is right insofar as the figures have risen.)
- Er hat recht, insofern als die Zahlen gestiegen sind.
